What to expect from the Category Manager position within Huisman? 

As a Category Manager, you work with the Supply Chain team to develop and implement our procurement strategy for new build projects. In this role, you go beyond new build alone — collaborating closely with the Services department to ensure a future-proof supplier network and a seamless handover to Supply Chain Services, covering all aftersales requirements through contracts.

You ensure reliable delivery of components and services, focusing on quality, availability, and global support. Looking 3–5 years ahead, you build sustainable relationships with suppliers that can serve both new build and service activities worldwide.

Your work includes developing suppliers, evaluating performance, analysing markets, and setting up framework agreements and SLAs. You translate the needs of New Build and Services into clear agreements and encourage joint procurement initiatives to improve efficiency and leverage scale.

The role is project-driven, combining technical expertise with strong communication skills. You will travel internationally about twice a month to visit suppliers and strengthen relationships.

You will work as part of a team of Category Managers, closely collaborating with Category Buyers, Engineers, and other stakeholders.

You are responsible for:

• Leading the procurement strategy within new build projects, aligned with business objectives and project timelines;
• Collaborating with the Services organisation to optimise joint purchasing and supplier agreements;
• Translating market developments and innovations into opportunities within the Huisman portfolio;
• Sourcing, qualifying, and developing suppliers with a focus on quality, global availability, and service support;
• Working cross-functionally with R&D, Project Management, and Services;
• Managing supplier relationships, including framework agreements and SLAs;
• Negotiating (international) contracts and volume deals with a focus on cost efficiency and delivery reliability;
• Coaching and supporting buyers to achieve results aligned with the category and business strategy.

You are: 

• a team player with experience in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams, able to work independently as well;
• agile, creative, and result-driven;
• proactive, persuasive, and communicatively strong;
• practical, accurate, and capable of operating in a demanding environment;
• willing to travel internationally (on average twice a month).

You have: 

• a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management;
• at least 5 years of experience in a similar role;
• experience in the offshore, maritime, or heavy steel construction sector;
• experience in a project-based organisation (preferably engineer-to-order);
• a strong affinity with technology;
• NEVI 1 and 2 certifications (preferred) or willingness to obtain them;
• experience in coaching and guiding teams;
• the ability to prioritise and remain effective under pressure.

• An EU passport/valid work permit for The Netherlands; 
• A good command of the English language verbally and in writing.
